In this week’s case discussion from Dr Terry Harvey, we look at a 50-year-old female patient who presented with two lesions on her right cheek. She could recall that one had been there for decades and the other was new, but she couldn’t remember which one was which.

Which two common facial lesions will be reported on histology? What features can we use to differentiate the two of them?

Update

The top lesion was reported histologically as a nodular basal cell carcinoma. The bottom lesion was reported histologically as a benign dermal naevus.
